A Day with the Rockwells

ArtSpace/Lima

October 22, 2015

Dear Teachers,

Hopefully you received a “Save the Date” card last Spring informing you about the upcoming exhibit at ArtSpace/Lima featuring five oil portraits  by Norman Rockwell. The exhibit is one day only and will feature the portraits Rockwell painted for the iconic  Crest “Look Mom, No Cavities” advertising campaign in 1956.  The portraits are of five different children and have never before been exhibited outside of Procter & Gamble’s corporate office.  Thanks to a generous grant from Procter & Gamble there will be opportunities on October 22 for school groups as well as the general public to view these wonderful original works of art by an American master.

Due to the short amount of time the paintings will be on view and the large number of individuals who hope to see the exhibit, ArtSpace has developed a special schedule for teachers to register for field trips and for the general public viewing.

  • School tours of the exhibit are docent led and will begin at 9:30.  Each time slot will be designated for one class of 25 students.
  • There will be 5 classes guided through the exhibit each hour from 9:30-2:30 on Oct. 22, 2015.
  • Registration will be by email or phone beginning on Thursday, Sept. 17 at 3pm. No school tour registrations will be taken before that time. The email address is kay@artspacelima.com. If calling ArtSpace/ Lima at 419-222-1721 on subsequent days please call between the hours of 10am and 5pm. ArtSpace is closed on Mondays.
  • Tours will be available on a first come, first serve basis. The date and time on emails will determine the order that requests are filled. Phone calls will be answered in real time.
  • In order for all schools to have an opportunity to attend, only two classes per school will be scheduled during the first week of registration.  After September 24, multiple classes from the same school may register for remaining openings.
  • Teacher packets including background information on Rockwell, the paintings, the Crest campaign, and on Anne H. Morgan who modeled for one of the paintings are available on the ArtSpace/Lima website.  Also included in the packet are copies of the five images and sets of lesson plans and art criticism activities for Elementary, Middle School and High School. A small number of hard copies of the packets will be available for pick-up from ArtSpace/Lima.
  • When requesting a school tour please have the following information ready:

School Name/Building Name

Teacher Name

Grade Level

Number of students

Email and phone

You will receive an email confirmation. Please bring your email confirmation when arriving at ArtSpace for your tour. ArtSpace/Lima is  located at 65-67 Town Square, Lima, OH 45802.

General Public Tours

If you are unable to bring your students on a school tour and wish to see the exhibit yourself there will be general public timed tickets  (public hours from 2:30-5:30) free of charge available at ArtSpace  beginning Tuesday, Sept. 15. Call or email ArtSpace Lima to reserve a timed entry ticket.

We hope to see you at the exhibit!
