 ARTSPACE/LIMA OFFERS PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

SOUP AND SALAD LECTURE SERIES,

TOUR TO THE DAYTON ART INSTITUTE

October 1, 2008, Lima, Ohio:  ArtSpace/Lima, in conjunction with the Ohio Arts Council and The Lima City Schools, will offer “The Portrait,” a series of three Soup and Salad Lectures with an overview of the development of the portrait in western art and a specific focus on children’s portraiture.   Lectures will be held on Wednesday, October 8, 15, and 22.  A light supper will be served at 6:30 p.m.; lectures will start at 7:00 p.m.

Mary Ann Sullivan, Professor Emerita of English and Art History Bluffton University, will give a slide-lecture on “The Development of the Painted Portrait in Western Art" on October 8; “The Self-Portrait and Portraits of Children" on October 15; and “The Depiction of Children in Visual Art" on October 22.  Individual lectures are $15.00 each; the price for all three is $40.00.   Art educators will be admitted free of charge.  Art educators may earn CEU's from Ashland University.

As a complement to the Portrait lectures, Professor Sullivan will lead a visit to the Dayton Art Institute on Sunday, October 26, for a docent-led tour of the current exhibit, Children in American Art.  The exhibit, on loan from the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, includes 46 paintings by some of the greatest names in American painting of the 18th and 19th centuries, including Stuart, Whistler, Homer, Cassatt, and Sargent.  Cost of the tour is $25.00, which includes lunch at the Café Monet and the docent.  Participants will meet at the main entrance to the museum at 12noon.

Please visit our website at www.artspacelima.com for additional information.
